In myth, Cancer was the giant crab sent by Hera to distract Hercules during his battle with the Hydra. Though crushed, Hera placed it in the stars for its loyalty.

At the heart of the crab lies Praesepe, the Beehive Cluster. Ancient Romans used it as a "weather glass"—if it wasn't visible in a clear sky, a storm was coming!

Over 2,000 years ago, the Summer Solstice occurred when the sun was in Cancer, giving the "Tropic of Cancer" its name as the northernmost point of the sun's path.
